ABOUT THE ARTIST

Tapan Kumar Dash graduated in Fine Arts from B.K. College of Art & Crafts, Bhubaneshwar in 1995.

He tries to establish a dialogue between images and their private associations in his paintings. He attempts to elevate his paintings above an exercise in mere technical and skillful competence. Though there is a disparity in his choice of subjects, his paintings can be visually grouped as they are naturally linked by a similarity in subject, concept, execution, and attitude. His figures speak directly and forcefully and keep viewers engrossed. His dialect is local, but his interpretive language makes it valid in global multilingualism. He discovers himself in the multiplication of images and gives it a metaphorical sensibility.

He has many solo exhibitions to his credit and his work is in many private collections in India and abroad.

I try to establish a dialogue between images and their private associations in my painting. My works explore a contrast between two kinds of private activities: the cosmic and the biological. My works pose a stoic silence and intense investment. I do not seriously concern myself with any thematic attachment. Although there is a continuous link in all my works, there is a kind of considerable disparity in the choice of subject matter, as the particular concerns of each painting are different. I try to elevate my elements above a mere exercise of technical and skillful competence. My paintings could be grouped visually, as they are naturally linked by a similarity in subject matter, concept, execution, and attitude.

I am not swayed by any preconceived notions; there is only the existence of an experience of origin. I trust my creative instinct and my intuition commands the space. I am not besieged by the constant onslaught of disposable images. My figures speak directly and powerfully. They hold viewers engrossed.

Ordinary faces and common characters affect me intensely. My figures are whole, alive, vibrant, and eloquent. My figures are intricately formulated with genuine synthesis. They are thought-provoking and conceivable. I can be critically defended for my substantial achievements, personal magnetism, and penetrating quality. I realize the importance of revalidation rather than mere synthesis and incorporation. I remain in constant search for a creative dialect in my mother tongue linguistic syndrome. My dialect remains local, but its interpretive language makes it valid in global multilingualism. In my works, I foster a verbal technique with the use of the visual, extending a privilege to my images to access the medium of conversation. I discover myself in the images and give them a metaphorical sensibility my self-image multiplications hint at a nostalgic journey. My elements have a powerful dialect that must be considered in the evolutionary process. My paintings represent a brilliant example of the artist's fused feeling. I am quite positive in understanding my shortcomings. My works do not have certain kinds of resolution, in many ways they remain insoluble.
