ABOUT THE ARTIST D L N Reddy was born in 1949 in a small village in Andhra Pradesh. He obtained his Diploma in Painting from the College of Fine Arts, Hyderabad, in 1969. He then joined the Master's College, Baroda, in 1971, to study graphic arts. Reddy paints with an almost disconcerting realism. Ramanand Naidu, a Hyderabad-based art critic and writer, notes There are some artists who believe in the intrinsic value of formal delineation to such an extent that it becomes their crucial premise. His works reveal his penchant for producing surprisingly volumetric effects with the greatest economy of means. The nude figure, for example, whether squatting, reclining, or sitting, is a leitmotif in several of his paintings. In the best of his nudes, there is a raw physicality. In some of the twisted and forked faces of the naked figures; There are clear echoes of Picasso. A figurative painter, most of Reddy's figures reflect a state of mind rather than meaning. The result is that he enhances the visual experience. The artist has worked with a variety of mediums, including graphics, sculpture, oils, and even glass. He has participated in more than 200 exhibitions around the world. I have always felt a sense of liberation from participating in exhibitions around the world. I have never neglected painting, not even when I travel or even when I am involved in graphic work. In 1982 he exhibited at a workshop of Indo-German artists held in Braunschweig, West Germany. He took this opportunity to travel extensively in Europe. D L N Reddy lives and works in Hyderabad.
