ABOUT THE ARTIST

Born in 1976, Ram Bali Chauhan studied sculpture at the Delhi College of Art and completed his post-graduate degree there in 2003. Chauhan has developed a unique artistic language that provokes greater response and participation from the viewer. By experimenting with the arrangement of lines and shapes in his works, he consciously isolates specific contours and configurations of interest and magnifies them, creating a sense of immediacy. Both animals and human skeletons are recurring motifs in his compositions.

Chauhans first solo exhibition was held at Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, in 2003, and was followed by another in 2006. In 2008, Chauhan had two solo exhibitions Voice of Violence at Stainless Gallery, New Delhi, and Shadow Lives at Mint, New Delhi. He also participated in the 12th Yuva Mahotsava Sahitya Kala Parishad in New Delhi in 2003, where he was honored with an award, and in the Indo-Japan Art Symposium, India, in 2002-03. Chauhans work has been part of group exhibitions such as Insider at Bodhi Art, Mumbai, in 2007.

The artist lives and works in New Delhi.
