Born in Srikalahasti, Andhra Pradesh, in 1979, Ramesh Gorjala studied at the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in Hyderabad, where he earned his BA in painting. His work focuses on traditional Indian heritage and culture, through sensitive and detailed mythological depictions of various Indian gods and goddesses. 

Gorjala works with a delicate and intricate technique, portraying his spiritual vision of the themes of Indian mythology through both his imagery and his process. His use of a palette dominated by gold, red, and green creates a vibrant and natural feel in each of his paintings, and the moods he can create and convey add an old-fashioned yet contemporary dynamic to his work. His subjects, primarily the gods, goddesses, and mythical forms of the South Asian pantheon, include Hanuman, Vishnu, and Buddha, painted with great sensitivity and attention to detail. Gorjala does not necessarily limit himself to a single, grand protagonist in his pieces. Instead, he integrates themes, blending not just one figure but multiple unified images into a larger character. Sometimes, this is tied together by fragments of text, usually in the background of his surfaces, which adds a new dimension to them. Another element that recurs in his work is the checkerboard pattern in black and shades of white and grey in the background, which adds a Christmassy and modern touch to pieces that have a largely traditional and spiritual feel. 

Gorjalas' work has won him several awards, including the Mahatma Gandhi Birth Centenary Memorial Award in 2000 from the Victoria Technical Institute (V.T.I.) in Chennai, and the 2002 State Award from the A.P. Crafts Council. The artist has had numerous solo exhibitions and participated in several group shows in India and abroad. Some of his solo exhibitions include Mythological Metaphor at the Chawla Art Gallery in New Delhi in 2010; Embracing Modernity at the Mon Art Gallery in Kolkata in 2007, and earlier exhibitions in Hyderabad and Bangalore. Group exhibitions featuring his works have been held in Mumbai, New Delhi, Jaipur, Chennai, Bangalore, and London.
