Chittrovanu Mazumdar

"Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures."

Chittrovanu Mazumdar

Mazumdar's cadres operate by fracture. Composed of bold brushstrokes, collage elements, abstract spaces, and layered figurative images, Mazumdar's raw, almost expressionist canvases create a powerful emotional response. Mazumdar graduated from Government College Kolkata in 1981 with a first-class degree in painting. He has held a variety of solo and group exhibitions in Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Paris, and New York, including special exhibitions such as the Exhibition for the African National Congress, the Kolkata Information Centre, Kolkata 1988 and the Confluence Art Camp for French and Indian artists, Alliance Francaise, Kolkata, 1992, Saffronart in Los Angeles 2001 and Saffronart & The Guild, 2004. His work can be found in the collections of the National Gallery of Modern Art, Delhi, and the Seagull Foundation, Kolkata. The artist currently resides in Calcutta.
