BORN EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS SELECTED SOLO EXHIBITIONS SELECTED GROUP EXHIBITIONS PARTICIPATIONS ABOUT THE ARTIST Born in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, in 1952, Yusuf obtained his diploma in painting and sculpture from Gwalior in the 1970s. In his contemporary abstractions, Yusuf generally sticks to scattered and sometimes geometric forms spread over the surface. He occasionally uses mixed media, but more often than not, Yusuf prefers to work with ink on rice paper. He has had 25 solo exhibitions and has participated in major group shows, including the 7th Triennial in New Delhi in 1992 and the Bangladesh Biennale in Dhaka in 1995. Yusuf has also participated in several exhibitions in Korea and Japan. He was the winner of the Raza Award in 1984 and the Lalit Kala Akademi National Award in New Delhi in 1987. Yusuf was also honored with the National Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture in New Delhi. He is known for his pioneering work in establishing the Graphics Workshop at Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal, where he currently works as the Deputy Director of Graphics. Yusuf has been made an honorary member of numerous national and international institutions and has also delivered several lectures across Japan.
