ABOUT THE ARTIST

My methods and intentions are the most important for my work. Although representational, it only retains some specific, but ambiguous, qualities in the representative forms of artistic practice as seen throughout history.

Rajendra Kapse hails from a small town called Chandrapur (eastern Maharashtra) and came to Mumbai to study art. It is here that he grew and developed and feels that this is an important aspect that he has.

Rajendra Kapse hails from a small town called Chandrapur (eastern Maharashtra) and came to Mumbai to study art. This is where he grew and developed and he feels this is an important aspect that has affected him as an artist. My work addresses social concerns and is presented as a critique of the current chaos that surrounds us: our contemporary culture lives with all kinds of contradictions and extremes.

A painter, he is also inclined to work in different forms and media and is open to new methods, techniques, and concerns. With an awareness of contemporary Indian and Western art forms, his work draws few parallels and moves towards personal subjective interpretations and perceptions, towards a more interactive pedestal. Using references from the work of established and already famous artists, his use of language, and his ways of using fragmentation to distort the construction of new construction, is the way you can describe his work at this time. Borrowing and transforming is my method, I think I have recognized it in time, keeping my integrity intact.
